There can be a number of reasons why until now countries around the world are struggling to put an end to drug addiction. One of them is a lack of funding. Monetary support is very important to provide help for drug-addicted individuals, may it be for medication or drug addiction facilities. In NY, Ellenville Regional Hospital has been awarded $350,000 from a state agency to treat drug addictions. The money, from the New York Office of Alcoholism and Substance Abuse Services, is part of a statewide effort to expand the availability of buprenorphine, which is used in hospital emergency departments to treat addiction, said Metzger, D-Rosendale. Emergency departments will partner with a state-certified “outpatient program to train emergency department staff on administering medication-assisted treatment for addiction, on how to screen for and respond to instances of opioid misuse, and on how to link patients in need of recovery services with peers and community-based treatment providers,” according to a press release about the Ellenville appropriation. “I am very pleased to see these funds coming to Ellenville Regional Hospital to ensure that staff have the training and the resources they need to respond to the opioid and addiction crisis, which has hit rural areas particularly hard,” Metzger said in the release. “It will build on the hospital’s existing work to reduce opioid use through their model Medicaid Accelerated exchange program that focuses on managing chronic pain without opioids.”
