It feels good to see in the news that drugs have been recovered or those who are using and selling them have been arrested. This means that the efforts of the government to stop drug addicted is getting some positive results. But the best thing about it is the fact they are saving lives and future. By arresting users and dealer, they are spared from further damage that drugs can cause them.

This would also mean that they will have another chance to change and get back on their feet. Along with recovery houses that aims to help addicts get out of addiction and the iniatives from the government, this problem will soon have an end. And just like the recovery of drugs in Highlands, there is still hope as long as we all act.

 

Police across the Highlands and Islands have removed drugs with a combined street value of almost £100,000 from communities during June.

Officers have been carrying out targeted enforcement across the region – resulting in seizures of Class A drugs worth approximately £36,500 and Class B drugs valued at around £56,700 being taken off the streets.

In addition to the drugs seizures – worth in excess of £93,000 – sums of cash totalling approximately £25,500 have also been seized.

Class A drugs recovered include cocaine, crack cocaine, heroin and MDMA. Class B seizures have included amphetamine and both herbal and resin cannabis.

The recoveries are the result of 26 positive drug search warrants held during the month, while drugs were also seized from individuals being searched and from the postal system.

As a result of this activity, 14 people will be or have been reported for offences relating to drug dealing.

The recoveries are the latest to be made as part of Operation Ram, which is specifically targets disrupting the trade in drugs in the Highlands and Islands...

Auburn woman sentenced to prison for selling drugs in Cayuga County

AUBURN — An Auburn woman received prison time Tuesday after she was sentenced for selling drugs in Cayuga County.   

On March 9, Lafler pleaded guilty to two counts of third-degree criminal possession of narcotics and one count of third-degree criminal sale of a controlled substance, both felonies, and second-degree criminal use of drug paraphernalia and endangering the welfare of a child, both misdemeanors, stemming from the two incidents that took place in 2017. 

Tuesday, she was sentenced by Cayuga County Court Judge Mark Fandrich to three and a half years in prison, followed by three years of post release supervision, for the felony convictions and one year for the two misdemeanor convictions, each to run concurrently. She also must pay $400 in restitution. 

Lafler was visibly shaking and crying as she apologized to the court for her crimes. 

"I'm doing very well and I appreciate whatever you guys give me as my consequence because I deserve it," she said. "I've been clean since I've been out, I've been going to mental health (counseling), I've been doing everything I should have been doing a long time ago and I just thank you for the opportunity and I am very sorry for everything I have done." 

Her defense attorney, Simon Moody, had asked the judge to grant Lafler a shock camp order. While Fandrich denied that request, he did say he would support Lafler taking part in any treatment programs available in prison. 

"I believe you're sincere Ms. Lafler in saying you have kept clean and are trying to get on the straight and narrow, but considering you sold drugs again in between the first and second indictment, I think you need to work on your sobriety," Fandrich said.

Drug deaths in Scotland are at their worst level since records began, new figures show.

There were 934 drug-related deaths registered in 2017, 66 more than the previous year, an increase of 8%.

In Dundee, there were 57 drug-related deaths in 2017, up from 38 the previous year, and 23 in 2007.

A majority of the Dundee deaths were related to powerful opiates, with 51 of the 57 deaths involving heroin, morphine, methadone or buprenorphine.

Benzodiazepines, which include Valium and etizolam – also known as “street Valium” – were found to be a factor 44 of the deaths. Cocaine was present in seven of the deaths and alcohol in five, but there were no fatalities linked to ecstasy or amphetamines in Dundee.

Joe Fitzpatrick MSP, the new Scottish public health minister, said Holyrood would adopt “a person-centred approach so that treatment and support services address people’s wider health and social needs”.

A woman who was being processed to serve time in jail on a previous drug charge was caught hiding drugs in her bra, police in southwestern Ohio said.

Stephanie Sandlin, 25, was ordered jailed on Friday for 60 days by a municipal court judge in Middletown stemming from a drug charge in March, the Hamilton-Middletown Journal-News reported.

Sandlin tried to get rid of a syringe on her way to jail, but the incident was captured on surveillance video, a police report said.

During a body search, a corrections officer found roughly .04 grams of methamphetamine and three marijuana cigarettes inside Sandlin’s bra, the police report said.

Sandlin now faces new charges of tampering with evidence, possession of methamphetamine, possession of marijuana and possession of drug abuse instruments, the newspaper reported.
